“You don’t know me, neither do I! So, we have no business, don’t we?”
That’s so typically metropolitan habit. Indeed it always appears in Hollywood movies. Should we copy them? Before that, understanding what happen seems necessary. First, some westerns don’t wanna take any risks for another person needing for help, though they want it. Risks mean some possibility for persuaded by law if they don’t give any appropriate help. Professionals like police, doctor, engineering, fireman etc., have the duty to help people. Second reason is really mentally self personality.
Indonesians acclaim to be unlike westerns. The value and norm keeps Indonesians to honor human dignity, even if the animals. But, last afternoon (Wednesday), a Liputan 6 report from Depok shocked at me. It’s not about any new habit. It’s what’s been developed in Indonesia today.
Jiwo, a mentally sick woman, was seized by some people around in Depok. She was then sent to a mental disorder hospital. The reason is she was with an incomplete death baby body.
“Whose baby is that? Is she another Sumanto enjoying the flash of human?”
Do you think so?
It was Jiwo’s baby. Incomplete, stink and death! But, no one around her knew who had made her pregnant. Just some couple days ago, some people saw Jiwo with hopeless and exhausted walks on their kampong street. Of course still with a baby in her body! Once again, no body took care of her because of a homeless crazy woman. However, when the stink had came out and spread around, people considered an odd thing.
The message of this report that the anchor of Liputan 6 wanted to bring out is that indeed we, people live in city, have been getting moral degradation. We live in good eastern norm and value. We acclaim it as Indonesian power in global social life. In fact, we are too much boosting talk and idea but less action.
Before the time is limit, YOU and I still CAN DO a lot of meaningful ACTIONS for another that needs our help. NOT BECAUSE OF MONEY, but MORE OF CARE and LOVE.
